About the Troop

Troop 267 is open to boys of all races and religions, ages 11 through 18 years of age.  It is sponsored by Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn Heights, an active and vibrant synagogue.

Troop 267 was founded in September, 1992 in order to provide our area with a Troop focusing on self-reliance and public service, while being mindful of the Jewish calendar.

We are a boy-led troop and accomplish this with an aggressive camping schedule and a healthy focus on self-paced rank advancement.  In our 25 year history, we have produced over 30 Eagle Scouts all of whom have completed unique and noteworthy Eagle service projects, and most of whom have earned the religious emblems corresponding to their faith.

Meetings

We meet every Tuesday evening, from 7:30 - 9:00 PM in the Scouting Center, downstairs at Temple Beth Sholom - 401 Roslyn Road, in Roslyn Heights. Attendance is not casual and boys come in full uniform to each meeting. The meetings are a healthy mix of instruction, presen-tations by guest speakers, and games designed to be engaging and provide the opportunity for younger scouts to learn from the older ones.

Uniformed adults are present at all activities to keep things on course, but the troop is led by our boys who have come up the ranks and had special training in leadership and scouting skills. While, boy-led meetings can seem a bit chaotic at times, it's through this process that they learn to command respect, become proficient in public speaking, and learn the importance of planning.

When done correctly, it's a time-tested formula which has served Scouting well since 1910.

Camping

While most instruction is provided at indoor meetings, the camping trips are where the lessons come to life.  Camping, hiking, map & compass, knife & axe, canoeing and lifesaving are best experienced in the great outdoors.  The troop has an aggressive monthly camping schedule and has even hosted  special trips to the Florida Sea Base, Mount Washington, and other spectacular locations.

Scouting provides an outstanding summer camp program for boys interested in a chance to earn merit badges in water sports, mountain biking, hiking, wilderness survival, and countless environmental and nature-related subjects.
